Directions to Laykin – Low Row from the East

From the A1: turn off at Scotch Corner or Catterick Bridge to Richmond. In Richmond take the B6270 through Reeth and continue to Low Row. Pass the Punch Bowl pub on your right and travel through the village about a third of a mile.  Look for   a barn with green tatty doors on your right. Take the track which starts by the barn and goes up behind the row of cottages- called Brown Hills, straight on for approx 1/3 mile passing through a shallow ford up to Laykin.

There is a stone with Laykin 1/3 mile on your right just as you pass the back of the cottages.

Directions to Laykin – Low Row from the West

Go through, Muker, and Gunnerside and as you enter Low Row look out for a brown sign on your right for Hazel Brow Farm Visitor Centre, approx 20 yards beyond this on the left is the entrance of the road leading to Laykin. It is between a small cottage with a small white conservatory and a barn with tatty green wooden doors.

NB  It is a very sharp turn left to get onto our track- sometimes it is easier to carry on past the turn, go into the village and turn around in the Punchbowl Inn car park.

Please note that the road to the Cottage is a stony track and is steep in parts. It features a hairpin bend. Those who would be nervous driving in the Alps or on Buttertubs Pass, would also feel nervous here. It is possible to drive up in an ordinary car, and most people manage fine. You may be alarmed on your first drive up. It is perfectly safe and all manner of vehicles have arrived with no harm.

There is parking both to the side of the cottage and beyond the cottage straight ahead of you. Please do not block the top gate.

Please  note that Satnav will take you to the village of Blades from which there is no access to Laykin!
